PDA PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!

Please come to the first ever nursing PDA party!
Wednesday, 1600 - 1730ish in Locke 314!
I know this is last minute, but please get the word out. If you have a PDA or are thinking of getting one, this is the meeting for you. PDAs are new to us all. These are the medical items of the future. Hospitals are being rewired to accomodate their use. Some of us have had a couple of semesters head start in learning some of the ropes. I am figuring out new stuff almost every day, so come on and share what you have learned with the rest of us. If you are wondering about which one to get or which programs to put into it, this is the meeting for you.
These are fantastic devices that will help keep you organized with your information at hand.
Bring your questions, your knowledge, your programs, your laptop or anything else that you can think of.
This will be an informal show and share session. Hopefully we will be able to have more of these in the future. Please give your input on how we can make these sessions better. Get the word out to your instructors. Many of them are starting to use handhelds too.
If there is a lot of interest, we will have more of these sessions.

As each month gets on, the earlier posts drop out of sight, so just click the month that you want to see.

SJDC ADN Class of 2007

SJDC ADN Class of 2007
Hey I finally made it in here! I just wanted to thank the second semester nursing students for an awesome reception and Welcome Tea! I know for myself it hit me by the time the third person came up to speak that this is really it and we are really here. Thank you for making us all feel so welcome. It is great to know that we have so much support. From all the rookie nursing students in first semester, Thanks!

Free White Lab Jacket!

First (post) come, first serve! Size 44 (Mens?) Get it while it is hot, or at least hanging in my closet. Julie Lang asked me to pass it on.

Nursing Fun - Jokes

"Top ten reasons to become a nurse:

1) Pays better then fast food, though the hours aren't as good.
2) Fashionable shoes and sexy white uniforms.
3) Needles: 'Tis better to give than receive'
4) Reassure your patients that all bleeding stops...eventually.
5) Expose yourself to rare, exciting and new diseases.
6) Interesting aromas.
7) Courteous and infallible doctors who always leave clear orders in perfectly legible handwriting.
8) Do enough charting to navigate around the world.
9) Celebrate all the holidays with your friends- at work.
10) Take comfort that most of your patients survive no matter what you do to them."

Hey Bring it back!

Hey DanO, I saw your post before you removed it. You are too funny! We need more of that kind of lighthearted posting. These blogs are not official school sites after all, so we should let our hair down. We are human (regardless of what some patients think).

Blog Invitations

Dan, there are a bunch of your classmates who are still not connected into the blog. You can take a sign-in sheet and announce at the beginning of class (with M. Semillo's permission of course) to the students who have not received a blog invitation yet, to sign up with their LEGIBLE email address and contact phone number (in case you can't read their most legible writing). Also let them know that they do not need an invitation to go to any of the blogs. The blogs are there for the whole world to see. They just cannot post directly without accepting an invite. Anybody can also post in the comment section at the bottom of each post, even if they do not have an invite. I have spoken with some students who stated that they were waiting to get an invitation, so thought that it might be a good time to cover this subject with everyone again. Please encourage everyone to check the blogs out.
We have been where you are now and have comments, suggestions and links posted that can help you. Use our stuff and add your own to create the newest and most up-to-date blog yet. This saves everyone from having to do a lot of the same repetitious websearches.

FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT HAVE NOT PURCHASED YOUR SCRUBS YET...
avoid going to the Tracy, West value Mall Location. This store has the wrong scrubs needed for the program, poor selection, a limited return policy where basically you have 10 days to return or exchanges, I don't believe she does money back. THE STORE MANAGER HAS BEEN RUDE TO SEVERAL STUDENTS IN THE PROGRAM AND PROVIDES HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Store credits issued by this store have a 30 day expiration policy, yes this means you loose your money if you fail to purchase something in her store within the 30 days, NO EXCEPTIONS! Avoid the headache! -Ena Torres

Dameron Hospital clinical groups

Hey everyone,

Clinicals are coming up soon and once we get to Dameron we will all undoubtedly have many questions about everything. There are three groups of us going there and it might be helpful if anyone of us stumbles across some useful information about anything related to that hospital, etc... We are all in this together, and we are only as strong as our weakest link. Remember, sharing is caring! Harrison

CH 22 Critical Ex 3

I'm stuck on this question. Can a 16 year old mom give consent to donate her child's organs? I don't think she can because she is still a minor. She can only give legal consent for medical treatment. In the Uniform Anatomical Gift Act an individual can donate an organ if he or she is at least 18 years old.

What do you guys think?

Also, does the minor's parent have the right to give consent?

Please advise.

Regarding the 2 Constellation PDA Pkgs

Austin, this message is from Mike Agardy, 2nd semester.
Make sure it was not loaded into the PDA. Maybe too late once loaded. Bonnie, I am posting a message from skyscape sales. Student who purchased two can contact this person to see if one can be refunded if not already sold.

Here is another message from the Skyscape team.
This is a recent e-mail from skyscape. If you have any questions you can contact this person and tell him you are in the SJDC RN program. As a reminder and for those new, on the skyscape home page there is a picture that says group and institution discount. You must click this first and enter the code SJDC when asked, as you add items to your shopping cart discounts are applied.
Hello Mike,
Hope you are doing well! If you recall we had set up a discount code for 25% for your program and I had sent you that information towards the end of August '05. Do you have any comments or feedback for us? How are the PDA initiatives at SJDC? If the use of PDAs and the references is pervasive and if there are certain reference that are either recommended or popular, we can create a custom webpage that can provide the discountas well hightlight the recommended references. We can also include hardware and software bundles on that page. Please see the following as an example:www.skyscape.com/anyuniversity

P.S. Skyscape also has the ability to do custom PDA projects as well as provide for training. Please ask for details. P.P.S. smARTlink All of Skyscape's references cross-link utilizing its patented ART(TM) (Advanced Referenceand Transaction) technology architecture, allowing you – especially in time critical moments –to move from researching a disease, to the drug appropriate for the treatment of the disease, to checking on the interactions of the drug quickly, interactively and without distracting your train of thought.

alternate layouts for blog...

hey everyone, i thought the dark background blog template looked cool at first, but i've found it's hard to read colored text links over the dark background, so i think i'll experiment with some of the other template/layouts. please let me know if you see anything you like/hate. :)

Hello there all...look at you guys and your nursing blog site!! Awesome job Dan fixing this up so nice and professional!! ;)

Just wishing you all the best, sending a little note from across the fence...hope all is well. See you all at family night? I encourage you all to go, it was a nice time, good for your famalies to see what you are all up to, makes them understand a little more when they see what you are REALLY doing at school all day. My husband would say to me, "well you GET to go to school" HUH? Like its a vacation or something haha.. but after fam night he understood a little better...so hope to see you all there!

PS..as exiting chair of the welcome tea I will be coming to ask for my replacement soon, I am sure that you all will contribute to the new chair requests for donations and help yes? I hope so, because no ONE can do it alone...so please remember :)

Take care all, best of luck, please let us know if you need anything...lets keep this support going on from one semester to another. The semester ahead of us has really helped guide us and we hope to do the same for you all...

Blessings and well wishes,

Christine Moles

Hey, we are looking for any eastbay commuters (Antioch, Brentwood or Discobay). Is there anyone else crazy enough to travel this far. Let's check schedules to see if we can form a study group or possible travel in to class together.

Nursing Constellation

I accidently bought the Nursing Constellation program twice. I am selling the second purchase if anyone is interested in buying. I can email you with the link and the product key number that has not been used yet.
